Preparatory Cycles to Engineering Studies       National Competitive Examinations
Engineer's Training       Preparatory Institutions

Tunisia has today eleven institutions in charge of preparatory cycles :

• The Preparatory Institutes to Engineering Studies (PIES) of Gabes, Mateur, Monastir, Nabeul, Sfax, Sousse and Tunis.
• The Preparatory Institute to Scientific and Technical Studies (PISTS) prepares the students to national competitive examinations and certain competitive examinations of French higher schools.
• The institutions of agricultural advanced studies : Agriculture Higher School of Mograne, Horticulture Higher School of Chott Meriam and Tunis National Institute of Agronomy.

The table below presents the disciplines taught by the PIES, the institutions of agricultural advanced studies and the PISTS and, for information only, the global intake capacities offered by each institution in the academic year 1998/1999 for the sections of Mathematics (M), Experimental Sciences (ES) and Technical Studies (T):

POSSIBILITIES OF ACCESS TO OTHER TRAINING CYCLES

In addition to the possibility of competitive examinations for access to engineers' training cycles, the students in preparatory cycles can sit for the first cycle exams in scientific or technological Master's degree.

In case of failure in the first year of the preparatory cycle, the student may benefit from an academic reorientation (based on the score of the academic orientation in the baccalaureate's year and on the number of available places).

The students in the preparatory cycle, who have used all their registration rights in the second year, can valorize their success in the first year and register :

        1- Either in the second year of the first cycle (scientific or technological Master's degree);

        2- Or in the second year or third semester of training in the institutions in charge of the training of senior technicians.
