ENGINEERING PROFESSION

The engineering profession embraces many activities in various fields : communications, construction, electronics, the manufacturing of materials (electric, mechanic...), computer science, agronomy, chemical industries, production and transformation of energy, production of equipment, services, etc ...

In these sectors, the engineer is an essential element in achieving the main study functions, research and development, production, maintenance, management, organization and administration. He works at different levels of responsibility : engineer-conceptor, company manager, and administration's high managerial staff.

The national diploma of engineer (DNI) is today a guarantee of :
  • Solid competences in the fields of sciences and technology;
  • Creativity and innovation potential;
  • Aptitude to conduct and implement industrial projects;
  • Mastering technologies' evolution.

ENGINEERING STUDIES

The engineering studies last uniformly five years. The preparatory cycles (scientific and technical) last two years and aim to prepare the students (baccalaureate Mathematics, experimental sciences and technique) to the competitive examinations in order to integrate the cycles of engineering studies. This process constitutes, since 1994, the main mode of access to these teachings.

The preparatory cycles comprise a range of four disciplines:

  • Biology and geology
  • Mathematics and physics
  • Physics and chemistry
  • Technology

This diversity favors the valorization of the specificity and the experience acquired by the students in various sections who wish to accede to the engineering studies.

The success in the national competitive examinations allows the access to numerous specialities proposed by the cycles of engineering studies. The holders of engineer national diploma have at their disposal a very wide range of activities in all the industrial and economic sectors.

In addition to the engineering studies, recruiting on national competitive examinations, the National Institute of Applied Sciences and Technologies (INSAT) assures an engineering studies in various specialities.

The access to this cycle of engineering studies can be made through the competitive examinations for the INSAT students and the holders of similar diplomas.

Besides, and after the engineering studies, many institutions propose a third cycle (DEA, DESS, and Doctorate). This cycle is open to the holders of DNI and, in certain cases, to the students in terminal classes of engineering studies. It aims to prepare the student to other professions such as teaching and research.
